The Barcelona skipper canceled out Borja Iglesias’ first-half opener in the 59th minute and made the pass that led to Victor Ruiz’s own goal, as he turned the game on its head after coming on with 30 minutes to spare. Lionel Messi rescues Barcelona yet again Ruiz, however, made amends for Real Betis, as he restored parity on the night with a header from Nabil Fekir’s cross. Twitter erupts as Alisson horror show sees Manchester City thrash Liverpool 4-1 at Anfield

Three minutes of nightmarish goalkeeping from Alisson Becker cost Liverpool all three points as Manchester City continue their dominance.Ilkay Gundogan had one too many chances to claim all three points and he took two of those to help Manchester City to a crucial win. Raheem Sterling nodded home to add cushion to their lead before Phil Foden belted home their fourth goal of the night. Both teams remained organized for the greater part of the game and it was Alisson’s consecutive errors that ultimately gifted City the advantage that they kept till the last.A set of awfully misplaced passes from Alisson Becker around the 75th minute gave Manchester City two chances and they took them both with open arms.10 minutes prior to that, Mohamed Salah had converted from the spot in the 63rd minute after Ilkay Gundogan had given Manchester City the lead.Gundogan made up for a first half penalty miss by poking home a parried shot early in the second to give open the scoring for the Cityzrns. Both teams looked well matched in the first half though Manchester City did look more threatening at times. The game ebbed and flowed but Pep Guardiola’s side should have scored first after Fabinho bundled Sterling inside the area and they were awarded a penalty. The Brazilian’s trailing leg caught Raheem Sterling and Michael Oliver pointed to the spot. However, the usually composed Gundogan took after Kevin De Bruyne and Riyadh Mahrez and sent the ball into the stands.Sadio Mane had missed a great chance earlier for Liverpool after running onto a cross from the right wing. Liverpool tried to claw their way back into the game and Curtis Jones came close with a low shot 10 minutes into the second half but Cancelo had it covered and deflected the ball away.

But Ruben Dias uncharacteristically misread a ball into the box and resorted to tugging Salah from behind and the Egyptian went down and won a penalty. He slotted it home without any hassle. At the end of the night, it was Alisson’s grave errors that cost Liverpool the game and the Brazilian is sure to come under severe criticism. After going 68 home games undefeated, Liverpool have now lost three games on the trot at Anfield.Twitter slams Liverpool’s Alisson and celebrates Manchester CityNever seen a player create more chances for the opponent than Alisson Becker— Hałe (@CFCHale) February 7, 2021Ouch, Liverpool!

Liverpool midfielder Fabinho gives update on his injury return

Liverpool midfielder Fabinho has stated that he is unsure over when he would return from injury. The Brazil international pulled up with a muscle problem in the FA Cup defeat to Manchester United and has missed the Reds’ three games since then.Speaking to Liverpool’s official matchday program, the 27-year-old said:“I had a slight discomfort in training so we decided that I shouldn’t play against Tottenham or West Ham.“I started undergoing my recovery straightaway and I’m feeling a lot better than I was at the start of last week and hopefully I’ll have the opportunity to come back for these games we have coming up.He added:“We’re not exactly sure how long I will be out but I’m working hard to be back playing as soon as possible.”Fabinho has been integral to Liverpool’s success since arriving at the club from Monaco in the summer of 2018. After an initial period of adaptation that saw many question his abilities, the midfielder has gone on to silence his critics with a string of fine displays. His innate ability to read matches and excellent interceptions helps solidify Liverpool’s base. This consequently allows his more attack-minded teammates to wreak havoc going forward.

However, he has been forced to play out of position for most of the season, owing to the defensive crisis in the club.Fabinho has been deployed at the heart of defence on several occasions but still discharged his duties with minimum fuss.Liverpool’s disproportionate injury crisis and the impact on the title defence Jurgen Klopp has had several injury concerns this seasonThe congested nature of the current campaign has taken a toll on all Premier League sides, with muscle injuries going up by 40%.

However, Liverpool have unarguably been the hardest-hit club, with no fewer than 12 key first-team players having suffered varying degrees of injuries at one point or another. The most serious ones have come in defence. The club currently have their first-choice centre-back options ruled out with long-term injuries, while Joel Matip’s fitness record throughout his Liverpool career has been poor.Having persevered against all odds from November through December to go top of the table, things have begun to unravel for Liverpool in recent weeks.A run of five games without a win in the league saw them plummet down the table. Having just gotten back to winning ways with consecutive victories, another loss at Anfield has put a spanner in the wheels.Up next for Liverpool is a mouth-watering clash with a rampant Manchester City on Sunday. The Cityzens have been in fine form lately and are the favourites heading into the tie.A failure to get a victory on home turf for the third consecutive game could all but end Liverpool’s hopes of successfully defending their Premier League crown.
